Matthew Hurley
Program Coordinator
Matt Hurley will be returning to the Caballeros in his role of Program Coordinator. This will be Matt’s 9th year in this role.
Matt also has been very active in the indoor color guard world. He has performed with the Bayonne Kidets, Conquest Color Guard, and The Emerald Marquis. He is currently the Program Coordinator for the AMP Indoor Color Guard Organization. Prior to his Role at AMP, he was also the operations manager with The Black Watch Independent World color guard for 12 years.
Matt has designed and instructed many NJ/PA high school marching bands throughout the years. According to Matt, “Way too many to list them all!”

Music Coordinator
Mr. Bialkin retired after celebrating his 32nd year as the Director of Bands at Ramsey High School in Ramsey, New Jersey. His responsibilities included directing the award-winning Ramsey High School Jazz Ensemble, the “Big Blue” Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Pit Orchestra, as well as supervising and working with all competing groups in the department including the Winter Guard and Percussion Ensemble. He arranged and collaborated on music performed by all the bands and ensembles on a regular basis. Under his leadership the groups routinely received top honors in competition and performances both domestically and internationally. The RHS Jazz Ensemble had been a consistent finalist at IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators) festivals, as well as many contests and festivals throughout the Tri-State area. Under his direction, the Ramsey High School Wind Ensemble garnered many superior and gold ratings at state, domestic, and international festivals. In 2019, Mr. Bialkin conducted the Music Educators of Bergen County Incorporated (MEBCI) Honors Band. In 2010, Mr. Bialkin was selected to be the guest conductor of the Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) Western Division Jazz Ensemble. In 2003, the Ramsey Jazz Ensemble was selected to be a guest of the Japanese government and the sole representative of the United States at the “All Japan Cultural Arts Festival” held in Fukui, Japan. During his tenure at Ramsey, the Marching Band and Jazz Ensembles traveled to London England, Paris France, and Rome Italy to participate in the New Year’s Day Parades and festivals.
Mr. Bialkin was a founding member of the Musical Arts Conference (MAC), and was on the executive board since the inception of the association, serving in many roles including Vice President and President.
Mr. Bialkin is the owner of Clifford Bialkin Designs LLC which creates marching arts productions for ensembles throughout the United States. Mr. Bialkin is a consultant for Youth Music of The World (YMOTW) and often serves as a clinician/judge for bands in and around the New York metropolitan area, as well as internationally. He is also a member of the Conn Selmer VIP program.
Currently Mr. Bialkin is the Co-Brass Arranger for the world famous Hawthorne Caballeros. He has been actively teaching in the drum corps world since 1996. In 2003 he joined the staff at Hawthorne Caballeros for their championship run. Since then, he has been teaching, designing, programing, coordinating and consulting multiple all age, and junior drum and bugle corps. Mr. Bialkin has a full private studio of low brass players, and is a freelance trombonist in the NY/NJ Metropolitan area.
Mr. Bialkin currently resides in Ramsey, New Jersey with his wife Sabrina, a teacher in the Wayne Township Public Schools in Wayne New Jersey.

Born in Issaquah, Washington in 1990, Jeff Chambers grew up in eastern Washington and now composes and arranges music that is played and heard around the world. He is the owner and lead brass and percussion arranger for Jeff Chambers Music LLC. He studied composition with Dan Bukvich and Robert Dickow at the University of Idaho and upon graduating, immediately made a full-time career in music composition and arranging. He specializes in pageantry music, musical theatre and music for film and media while constantly expanding to other genres.
To date, Jeff has composed and arranged over 150 new marching band shows and has received national recognition as a prominent and emerging marching arts designer. His shows have competed at all levels of BOA, USBands, Tournament of Bands, Cavalcade of Bands and Texas UIL. This year 170 marching bands across the country performed his music, 22 of which performed brand new commissions. He currently serves as the lead music composer and arranger for the Columbians Drum and Bugle Corps, brass arranger for the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps, Music Arranger for Phoenix Drum and Bugle Corps and was the percussion arranger for the Eruption Indoor Percussion Ensemble in 2016. He also composes and arranges indoor winds and indoor percussion shows for programs across the country, including ensembles that compete in Dayton, Ohio at the WGI World Championships. His work is published through Marching Show Concepts and on his website, www.jeffchambersmusic.net.
Jeff currently lives in Puyallup, Washington with his wife Karissa, daughter Oakley, son Ryker and their two spoiled pups.

Percussion Arranger & Percussion Caption Head
Mark is a NJ based musician and educator currently holding the middle school band director position at Eisenhower Middle School in Roxbury NJ as well as percussion specialist for the district. As a graduate of Rutgers University, he holds degrees in both music education (percussion focus) and psychology. Having worked with various scholastic percussion ensembles in New Jersey, Mark has also worked with various independent musical organizations such as The Santa Clara Vanguard (battery technician) and The Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps (percussion/music coordinator). He has also worked with his alma mater, the Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights, since 2016. Mark would like to thank his teachers for their immeasurable impact on his musical career as well as for their selflessness and energy: Joseph Tompkins, Kyle Zerna, Mike Truesdell, Javier Diaz, Todd Nichols, Paul/Sandi Rennick and Kevin Chaffinch.

Matt Blood is a marching arts designer, educator, and consultant based out of Southern New Jersey. He has worked with many marching bands, indoor percussion ensembles, and drum corps around the country as the sole proprietor of mattbloodmusic.com and as an arranger for Clifford Bialkin Designs LLC. Matt has designed shows for and taught programs who have performed at Drum Corps International semifinals, Winter Guard International PIW and PIO finals, and Bands of America Grand Nationals.
In the past, Matt has held the positions of Front Ensemble Arranger for the Jersey Surf from 2019 to 2023, Front Ensemble Arranger/Sound Designer for United Percussion 2 in 2022 and 2023, and taught the front ensemble at United Percussion World from 2019 to 2023, where he was the coordinator in 2021 and caption head in 2022 and 2023. Currently, Matt holds the positions of Front Ensemble Caption Head/Arranger/Sound Designer for the Hawthorne Caballeros, Front Ensemble Caption Head/Sound Designer/Staff Arranger for the Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights, and Front Ensemble Manager/Arranger/Sound Designer for the Imperial Dynasty Indoor Percussion Program.
Matt received his Bachelor’s degree in classical percussion performance from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, where he learned from Joe Tompkins, Kyle Zerna, Mike Truesdell, and Javier Diaz. In addition, Matt has performed as a member of the United Percussion Front Ensemble during their 2012-2014 seasons, where he was fortunate enough to work with many amazing educators, including Steve Ballard, Ian Hale, and Rich Klimowicz.

Danielle is excited to return to the Hawthorne Caballeros as the Color Guard Designer for the 2025 season
Danielle has marching experience with many organizations within WGI, DCI, and DCA such as Black Watch, Glassmen, and Caballeros. She was a member of Black Watch for their audition for America’s Got Talent and a staff member with the group for Contemporary Color. Danielle has taught groups including Jersey Surf, Black Watch, and various local marching bands and winter guards in the PA/NJ area. She is excited to return home to the Caballeros in a new role after a short hiatus. She previously was a technician and choreographer from 2013 – 2017, and Caption Head from 2018 – 2021. Danielle is thrilled to be back for her third season as a technician with AMP World Guard.

Bobby Jones is a full time Visual Designer, Program Coordinator and Consultant for a multitude of high schools, university marching bands, drum corps, winter guards, and indoor percussion ensembles throughout the country.
Prior highlights include 2006 Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps (Allentown, PA), 2007 Hawthorne Caballeros Drum & Bugle Corps (Hawthorne, NJ), 2011 - 2014 Jersey Surf Drum & Bugle Corps (Mount Holly NJ), 2017-2018 Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps (Allentown, PA), and the 2021 US Army Training and Doctrine Command Band. Most notably, Bobby has played an integral part in the success of the Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps (Reading, PA) serving as Visual Designer and Caption Head (2005, 2008-2011) and as Visual Designer and Program Coordinator (2012-2020), overall earning eleven DCA World Championship titles.
Bobby has been recognized by his peers and colleagues for his accomplishments and contributions to the drum corps and high school marching community with induction into the Reading Buccaneers Hall of Fame in 2014, World Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 2016, and Keystone Drill Association Hall of Fame in 2022. Bobby also works as a freelance adjudicator, judging for multiple indoor and outdoor circuits across the country, including WGI Percussion, is a member of the administration panel of the Cavalcade of Bands circuit, and a visual judge for the annual New Year’s Day Philadelphia Mummers Parade. Most recently, Bobby was confirmed to the WGI Percussion Steering Committee for 2023 -2024. Bobby currently lives in Hawthorne, NJ with his wife Amy, son Chase and puppy Myron.

Tony Rideout (he/him/his) will be returning to the Hawthorne Caballeros for the first time since 2013 as a member of the Design Team and in the new role of Instructional Staff Mentor.
Tony has marched with the Reading Buccaneers (1995) and the Cadets of Bergen County (1996). He has been on the visual staff for the Carolina Crown (2001), Crossmen (2003; 2006-2009), Boston Crusaders (2012-2013), Hawthorne Caballeros (2013), Jersey Surf (2015 Visual Supervisor), and Cadets2 (2017, 2018 Program Coordinator). Tony is a design consultant for New Jersey high school marching bands, winter guards, and indoor percussion ensembles.
Currently, Tony is a Music Education Lecturer (part-time) and is writing his dissertation in the Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education program at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers, The State Univeristy of New Jersey. Tony is an active guest lecturer, conference presenter, and scholarly author with research interests in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices in the field of music education..

Briana See
Color Guard Caption Head
Briana is thrilled to be returning as the Hawthorne Caballeros Color Guard Caption Head for the 2025 season! Briana began her career in the marching arts back in 2008 at Wayne Hills High School (2008-2012). Following high school, Briana joined an independent winter program with Emanon winter guard for two years (2013 – 2014). She took the role as captain of Emanon A in 2014. In addition, Briana started her first ever DCA Drum Corp season in 2013 with Fusion Core and fell absolutely in love with the activity. She continued to march with Fusion Core for 6 years (2013-2015; 2017-2019) and she was captain during 2018-2019. During the summer of 2016, Briana marched her age-out season with the Boston Crusaders. She then decided to hop back onto the indoor floor and perform with Fusion Winter guard in 2018. This activity has meant so much to her, that she could not stay away. Briana joined the Hawthorne Caballero family by filling a spot in the color guard during 2021. She marched again the following year and after one year on staff will be entering her second year in the role of Color Guard Caption Head.
Additionally, Briana has taught a variety of programs, which include Wayne Hills High School, Pequannock High School, Roxbury High School, Luminosity and Q Independent.
Briana is ready to have an amazing season with the Hawthorne Caballeros and looking forward to teaching in the activity that is 100% a part of her.

Joshua Jenkins
Brass Caption Head
Joshua (JJ) Jenkins is the Director of Bands at Ramsey High School in Ramsey, New Jersey where he has been since 2020. His responsibilities at Ramsey High School include directing the Ramsey High School Wind Ensemble, the Ramsey "Big Blue" Band and Guard, and teaching instrumental lessons for grades 9-12. Previously, he was the assistant band director in the Vernon Township school district and the band director at Brooklawn Middle School. JJ grew up in Blairstown, New Jersey and majored in Music Education at Ithaca College where he studied French horn with Professor Alexander Shuhan.
JJ is currently the mellophone technician at the Sacramento Mandarins as well as the Brass Caption Head of the Hawthorne Caballeros. He was a member of the mellophone section at the Caballeros from 2008-2012 and then went on to march mellophone with Carolina Crown in 2013 and 2014. After aging out, JJ returned to the Caballeros as a drum major and eventually went on to be the mellophone technician and then Brass Caption Head.
Joshua's professional affiliations include the MEBCI (Music Educators of Bergen County Inc.) and the New Jersey Music Educators Association. He is an active performer and is a member of the Sussex County Brass Quintet. JJ currently resides in Fair Lawn, New Jersey and loves being an uncle to his nephew Graeme and his niece Elanor.

Anthony Paterno is currently the Assistant Director of Bands at West Milford High School. His responsibilities include assistant directing the marching band, conducting the Symphonic Band, and teaching brass lessons for grades 7-12. Anthony recently graduated from Rutgers University where he studied trumpet with Professor Kenny Decarlo and conducting with Dr. Julia Baumanis and Dr. Todd Nichols. He completed his student teaching with Mr. Jeffery Conrad and Mr. Ryan Sweer at Roxbury High School and Eisenhower Middle School.
Anthony began his drum corps career with the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps in 2019 and 2020. He went on to march with Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps from 2021-2024. During his time in Crown, the brass section was awarded the Jim Ott Memorial Award for Best Brass. He attributes much of his teaching style and musical ability to Josh Jenkins and Matt Harloff, his brass caption heads.
Anthony has been teaching marching band since 2020 at various programs, including Wayne Hills High School, Parsippany Hills High School, Ramsey High School, and Roxbury High School. During the winter of the 2024 season, he was a part of the Caballeros Brass Staff as an intern. He is excited for this opportunity and is looking forward to a great season.

Kirby is a percussion educator and arranger based in New Jersey. He started his marching career at Phillipsburg High School in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. He then went on to march quads with the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps (2012-2013) and Fusion “Core” (2015). Kirby aged out with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps in 2016 and marched with United Percussion (2014-2017), aging out as battery captain.
Kirby has taught and arranged for numerous high schools in New Jersey, but he is currently the percussion director/arranger at Bridgewater-Raritan High School. He was a quad technician at the Hawthorne Caballeros (2017-2019) and then assumed the role of battery coordinator (2020-Present). He is excited to continue the Hawthorne Caballeros’ tradition of excellence!

Zach Brenna is a percussion educator & arranger based out of Long Island, New York. Zach’s marching arts experience started with Lindenhurst High School, his hometown. As his first venture into drum corps, Zach spent 4 summers with the Long Island Sunrisers from 2014-2017 playing bass drum and snare drum. Following this, he marched with the Hawthorne Caballeros (2018/2019) where he served as section leader, and The Cadets (2020/2021) both on snare drum.
Zach’s teaching experience includes the Hawthorne Caballeros, Brentwood HS (NY), Lindenhurst HS and several other high schools around the Long Island area. He is excited to step into a new role with the Caballeros!
Currently, Zach works at Chase Bank as an Associate Banker, and looks forward to spending his 7th year with the Caballeros organization!

Tricia is a percussion educator based in New Jersey. Her experience in the marching arts began at West Essex High School. Afterwards, Tricia attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology where she received her bachelor's in Information Technology. During her studies, she began her first drum corps season with the Hawthorne Caballeros.
She was a member of the Caballeros from 2018 to 2022 performing on vibraphone and marimba. Her teaching experience includes Fort Lee HS, West Morris Mendham HS, New Milford HS, and Madison HS.
Currently, Tricia works as a Software Engineer for Prudential Financial in Newark, NJ. She is excited to teach with the Caballeros!

Ryan Mitchell is a Pennsylvania based marching arts freelancer. He is currently part-time at West Chester University finishing his Music Elective Studies Degree where he has studied with Dr. Robert Skoniczin and performed in various ensembles.
Ryan has worked with the Midland Park high School Marching Band since 2019 as a Music/Visual Consultant, Pottsgrove High School from 2022-2023 as a Brass/Visual Instructor, Hatboro-Horsham High School from 2023-Present as the Visual Caption Head and Council Rock North High School 2024-Present as a Visual Instructor. He will also be heading up Drill writing and Visual instruction for Upper Dublin High School's Indoor Percussion Ensemble this coming season.
Ryan began his drum corps journey with Fusion Drum and Bugle Core in 2016 where he marched trumpet until 2018. From there he went to the Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2019 and 2020 seasons before returning to Fusion to fill a hole in 2021. He went on to march with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps on trumpet in 2022 and after returning from tour filled a hole at the Bushwhackers Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2023 Ryan joined the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps on the Visual team and returned for the 2024 season where he ended up joining the line for the last two shows. He is excited to start this season with the Caballeros in his new role.

Andre Rizzuto is a performer, Band Director and Educator from Long Island, NY. Andre is a tuba player and has been since 2006 (when he first started music).
Andre is a High School Band Director in Suffolk County on Long Island. After graduating from Brentwood High School, Andre had taken some time from school to march Drum Corps with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (2014-2016). Before that, Andre was a marching member of the Sunrisers Drum and Bugle Corps (2011-2013). After Andre finished marching drum corps, he decided to return to college to pursue a BA. in Music Education from Hofstra University on Long Island, NY. Andre graduated from Hofstra in May of 2022. Through Andre’s time in college he was a member of the following ensembles, Wind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, University Chorale, Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Hofstra University Big Band and Tuba Euphonium Ensemble.
Through Andre’s time in college, he taught private lessons to Tuba and Euphonium students around Long Island. In addition, Andre has taught marching band and Drum Corps from 2014- present. He taught at The Long Island Sunrisers (2017-2018), The White Sabres Drum and Bugle Corps (2019), The Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps (2020-2021) and The Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps (2022).

Michael Castellano is a performer and educator from Long Island, New York. He currently resides in Malden Massachusetts.
Michael is a band director and brass specialist at Everett Public School District. After graduating from Lindenhurst High School, Michael moved to upstate New York to pursue a degree in Music Education at SUNY Fredonia, while studying trumpet with David Duro and John Maguda. During his time at Fredonia, Michael performed with various ensembles including The Fredonia Symphony Orchestra, Fredonia Chamber Orchestra, Fredonia Wind Ensemble, Fredonia Brass Choir, Fredonia Jazz Orchestra, Fredonia Latin Jazz Ensemble and Fredonia New Jazz Ensemble. Michael Currently performs with the Funk Group, “Funk Island Sound”.
Michael’s drum corps experience started in 2014, when he marched lead trumpet with the Long Island Sunrisers for the 2014 and 2015 season. In 2016-2018, Michael marched trumpet with the Canton Bluecoats, where he was a lead trumpet and was a soloist for the 2017 and 2018 season. After his ageout, Michael went on to teach choreography and visual with the Jersey Surf in 2019, trumpet with the Connecticut Hurricanes in 2020 and 2021, and trumpet with the Hawthorne Caballeros in 2022 and 2023. Michael is very excited to continue working with the Caballeros brass team!

Caitlyn is an active music educator and trumpet player from Broad Brook, Connecticut. Caitlyn is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and holds a B.S. in Music Education and a B.A. in Music, and will receive a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction in Music Education in May 2025. Caitlyn is very excited to join the Caballeros team for the 2025 season.
Caitlyn began her marching career with the University of Connecticut Marching Band in 2020, where she served as trumpet section leader for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. She then went on to march lead trumpet with the Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle corps in 2023 and 2024, where she was the flugelhorn soloist for their 2023 production Sinnerman and trumpet section leader for the 2024 production Vieux Carré.
Caitlyn is currently a Visual and Brass instructor with the Orville H. Platt High School Marching Band and a Brass Instructor for 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as assisting with several music organizations around the state of Connecticut.

Trumpet Technician
Alex Morris is a diverse and dynamic performer from West Chester, Pennsylvania. They are set to graduate from West Chester University this winter with a degree in Music Performance. They spent their years studying under professors Rob Skoniczin and Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski on trumpet, and a variety of auxiliary instruments. They have vast experience performing and teaching, particularly in the marching arts.
Since the winter of 2022, Alex has been contracted and performed under multiple world class organizations on both color guard and trumpet. Such organizations include Amp Winterguard from 2022-2024, the Sacramento Mandarins in 2022, and the Bluecoats from 2023-2024. Prior to this, Alex marched with the Hawthorne Caballeros from 2017-2021 and spent a season with the West Chester University Marching Band. They have utilized their extensive experience to effectively instruct multiple high school bands in the Southeastern Pennsylvania area, having a mainstay as a color guard instructor at Bayard-Rustin High School.
During their time at West Chester University, Alex has performed with most of the ensembles that are offered for trumpet players. Highlights of these include the top wind band, the top jazz ensemble, the brass ensemble, and the orchestra. They also have a variety of chamber and solo playing experience, having recorded multiple small ensemble and solo works, as well as giving two solo recitals.

Kate Warren is an internationally acclaimed hornist and music educator. She currently serves as a College Lecturer in Music at Ocean County College and is the featured French horn soloist for the Tony and Emmy award winning Broadway show Blast!. Additionally, Kate serves as the Social Media Coordinator for the International Horn Society. Prior to these appointments she was a Yaffe Post-Graduate Teaching Fellow for the Yale School of Music's Music in Schools Initiative. Kate has previously toured with the Dallas Brass and held positions with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, and the Sinfonia Gulf Coast.
As an educator Kate is passionate about creating resources for music students and works extensively within social media to promote music and music education through her instagram page @katewarrenmusic. Recently Kate published her second book, 3 Week Fundamentals Boot Camp, and worked with Conn & Selmer and SmartMusic to develop and record a comprehensive beginner french horn curriculum. Kate is an in-demand lecturer and researcher, regularly presenting on gender and equity in brass playing as well as social media and entrepreneurship in music.
Kate holds a Masters of Musical Arts degree from Yale University, a Masters of Music in horn performance from the New School, studying with Erik Ralske, and a BM in horn performance from Florida State University. Kate is a regular freelancer in the New York/ New Jersey area, and is available for private lessons and remote recording work.
Kate also has extensive pageantry arts experience and has previously taught brass at the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps and the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum & Bugle Corps and taught visual for the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps, the Arizona Academy Drum & Bugle Corps, Carolina Crown, and Ancient City Percussion, as well as worked with the University of New Haven Charger band and numerous high school programs.
Kate marched four summers of DCI playing mellophone, two with Carolina Crown (2017, 2018) and two with the Boston Crusaders (2015, 2016). On February 10th, 2023 Kate performed Ryan Williams' mellophone concerto: Shades of Red with the Yale band. Outside of music she enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and reading.

Meghan Correll is the Director of Bands at Emerson Junior-Senior High School. She is the head director of the marching band, two concert bands, and two jazz bands for all 7th-12th grade students. They also teach general music and pull-out lessons for all woodwind, brass, and percussion students.
An alumna of Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, Meghan graduated in 2023 with a degree in Music Education and Clarinet Performance. She was the senior class representative for the Rutgers branch of the National Association for Music Education, and was selected as the student speaker at the 2023 MGSA graduation ceremony. Meghan marched with the Rutgers Marching Scarlet Knights for five years, where they served as a clarinet drill advisor, and then mellophone section leader, where they performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. She went on to march her ageout year on mellophone for the 2023 Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps.
Meghan has taught marching band as a woodwind specialist, brass specialist, and visual designer and technician for bands all over New Jersey, including Cherokee High School, Collingswood High School, Northern Burlington County Regional High School, and North Plainfield High School. This season, she was invited back to Rutgers as the mellophone technician and will travel with the band to represent Rutgers in London Band Week. They are also entering their second season as a visual technician for River City Winds. Meghan is looking forward to a great season with the Caballeros mellophone section.

Justin Lordi is a trombonist from Branchburg NJ, and received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Ithaca College in May 2023. Justin is currently the middle school band director at Pioneer Academy in Wayne NJ, and a very energetic and passionate lover of the marching arts. In the past, he has marched 4 years on baritone with the Immaculata Spartan Marching Band, and additionally with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps during the 2020, 2021, and 2023 seasons. Justin is really looking forward to sharing his in-depth background on brass and music theory with the Caballeros this season, and cannot wait to get started!

Starlyn Lopez is NJ based trombonist, arranger and educator. He is currently the winds coordinator and assistant jazz band band director at Somerville High School, prior to this he was the assistant band director at Perth Amboy High School. He is excited to be back for his second year with the Caballeros brass!
Starlyn studied trombone performance at NJCU under Dr. Michael Christianson, Dr, Gilles Bernard and Dr. Keith Green. During his time at NJCU he performed with the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Orchestra as well as various other smaller ensembles. Since graduation, Starlyn has gone on to perform the national anthem at Yankee stadium and has played live on La mega 97.9fm. He has performed all over the US with some of the biggest names in Latin music and you can find him equally comfortable in a symphonic ensemble, jazz band, musical pit or nightclub hit. Starlyn credits his mom for his anything is possible attitude and when not performing or teaching, you can find him with a cup of coffee and a book.

John Blackstone-Gardner is a euphonium/low brass performer from San Diego, CA. In May of 2024 he received a Bachelors of Arts in Music and a Bachelors of Science in Music Education from the University of Connecticut and is currently pursuing a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the same University.
After marching Euphonium with Gold DBC(‘21) and The Cadets(‘22, ‘23), and three years with the UConn Marching Band on Baritone, John has had the joy of working with a variety of different ensembles. He currently serves as a Director Intern with UCONN Athletic Bands where he instructed and helped with organizing the Marching Band in the Fall. Now he is one of the directors of the Pep Bands following the Basketball and Hockey teams. In addition, he has been a part of the Visual Staff and helped with the low brass section at Southington High School working with both their Marching Band(‘23, ‘24) and their Winter Percussion program(‘24).
Outside of music, John lives in Tolland CT where he spends his free time reading, building legos, and playing video games. He especially enjoys all things Sci-Fi/Fanstasy and loves Lord of The Rings. He is super excited to bring his passion and love for music to the Caballeros this season and is ready to get some work done!

Sean Ferguson is returning for his second year on the Cab’s brass staff. A native of of the Jersey Shore, Sean is a graduate of The College of New Jersey and is currently finishing his Masters in Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Throughout his time in academia, Sean’s research focuses on making music more inclusive for educational communities. His work involves building a culturally responsive curriculum that centralizes the student’s strengths, experiences, and values.
Sean is currently the Director of Bands at Somerville High School in New Jersey. He currently serves over 250 music students across 9 ensembles, 2 AP Music Theory courses, and 2 music technology courses. The award-winning Marching Pioneers were promoted to USBands Open Class in his second year as the director and have won numerous awards and competitions since then. In addition to his own school, he has written music, drill, and full-show designs for several groups in the NY/NJ metropolitan area.
Sean marched several years of drum corps as a member of the Raiders, Bushwackers, and Phantom Regiment. After aging-out in 2015, Sean has since served as an instructor and designer for multiple corps. Currently, Sean serves as the brass arranger for 7th Regiment.
Outside of music, Sean is a strong supporter of diversity and inclusion efforts for marginalized groups and his communities. He is currently an advisor for Somerville’s Spectrum Alliance (LGBTQ+ advocacy group) and Asian Student Association.

A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Rick is the second child of Ricardo Sr. and Terry Brown. Music was always a major part of Mr. Brown's life; His mother was a member of a gospel group called the “Family of Love” and his dad constantly exposed him to the most interesting and soul stirring pieces daily. From an early age it was apparent that music would be his life’s work. After being selected to All District Band, All-State Band, Virginia Honor Band as well as the Governor's School of the Performing Arts in high school, Mr. Brown explored every option of making music a career.
Mr. Brown began his teaching journey working under Mr. John Boyd as the Assistant Director at Princess Anne High School in 2005. He then moved on to W.E Waters Middle School, where he was previously a student, in 2007. He was then made the graduate assistant for the Norfolk State University Spartan Legion band program in 2009. After 7 great years at Waters, Mr. Brown was afforded the opportunity to join the faculty at Prairie View A&M University serving as the Assistant Director of Bands, Band Business Manager as well as Professor of music education and Director of the University Concert Band and Jazz Ensembles. After enjoying many successful years at “PV”, Mr. Brown was later appointed the Associate Director of Bands in 2014.
Currently, Ricardo Brown serves as the Associate Director of Bands and Interim Wind Ensemble Director at the University of Connecticut. These responsibilities include show design and music ensemble direction for the “Pride of Connecticut Marching Band” as well as directing the UCONN Pep Band which supports our World Champion Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams. Mr. Brown also serves on the music faculty at the university teaching music education courses as well as serving on multiple committees and arranging for the university big band and all athletic ensembles. Together, the UCMB staff, Mr. Brown helped lead the UCMB to being a Sudler Trophy Finalist in 2018.
When not working with UCONN Bands, Mr. Brown is an active clinician, adjudicator, and performer. This includes judging in the TOB, US Bands, Virginia Marching Band Cooperative, and Texas UIL Circuits respectively. As a clinician, Mr. Brown has been afforded the opportunity to travel the country working with multiple programs on developing quality musicianship and performance practices. It is truly a passion of Mr. Browns to impart his knowledge of band performance onto students while also instilling a love of music. Mr. Brown has also performed with numerous ensembles including the Virginia Symphony, Virginia Beach Symphony, Fancy Pants Productions, The Right on Band, numerous churches, NASCAR, Houston Symphony, Ballet Afrique Cotton Club, New London Big Band just to name a few. When not performing Mr. Brown enjoys a budding conducting career. This includes having work with multiple All- City and All District Bands, college and high school ensembles, attending conducting clinics, and the high light of his conducting career, conducting The Band of Her Majesties Royal Marines in 2007.
In the Marching Arts, Mr. Brown has enjoyed a truly amazing career. He started his marching experience in DCI with the Crossmen in 1999 as a lead soprano performer. He then moved on to The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in 2001 enjoying 4 great years. Drum Corps fans may recognize him as being a member of the Malaguena trio in the Cadets 2003 show “Our Favorite Things”. After aging out in 2004, Mr. Brown was immediately hired by the Cadets and served as a trumpet instructor, administrative team member, as well as coordinator of the “Music is Cool” clinics working with thousands of students across the country. While with the Cadets, Mr. Brown captured his first DCI World Championship in 2005, while tying at the time the highest score ever as well as winning every sub-caption. After the 2006 season, Mr. Brown took a break from DCI to focus on becoming a better educator but was afforded the opportunity to return to the activity joining the amazing staff of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle in 2014 with the fan favorite show “TILT”. While with the Bluecoats Brass Team, Mr. Brown enjoyed many firsts with the corps including receiving the highest placements in the corps history with our 2nd place finish in 2014, winning our fist caption, all culminating in winning his second DCI World Championship in 2016. While assisting in growing the Bluecoats Brass program, Mr. Brown was promoted to lead trumpet tech and later assistant brass caption head in 2021. When not teaching junior corps, Mr. Brown also serves as Brass Consultant with the Caballeros Senior Corps from Hawthorne, NJ. Recently, the Caballeros won the 2021 DCA World Championship.
Rick received both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Norfolk State University where he received a B.S. in Music Education and a Masters in Trumpet performance under the tutelage of Dr. Steven Carlson and Dr. Timmey Zachery. Currently, Mr. Brown is in the final stages of completing his Doctorate (DMA) degree in Conducting from the University of Connecticut with an anticipated completion date of May 2022. His primary conducting instructors were Dr. Vu Nguyen and Maestro Andre Raphel. Mr. Browns professional affiliations have included memberships in Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, Texas Music Educators Association, Connecticut Music Educators Association, ITG (international Trumpet Guild) and the Texas Jazz Educators’ Association. Previously, Mr. Brown was also a member of the Virginia Music Educators Association. When not working, Mr. Brown is an avid technology lover and connoisseur of great music regardless of genre. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Tiffany, and their dog, Hooch.

Kristen Eck earned her degree in Music Education from University of Houston, and began her professional career as a freelance trumpeter, while teaching private lessons and marching band at several competitive Houston area band programs including Clear Creek, North Shore, Pearland, Clements, and The Woodlands. She has since served as an elementary music teacher in Spring, TX and then continued as an assistant band director at Morton Ranch High School in Katy, TX. While at Morton Ranch, she led the jazz history & improv class, the MRHS Jazz Band, the marching visual program, and her ensembles consistently received superior ratings in both UIL marching and concert band contests.
Kristen taught on the brass instructional team at the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps from 2016-2022, specializing in mellophone, and served in an additional brass caption coordination role from 2021-2022. She then taught with the incredible brass teams at Blue Devils A and Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps 2023-2024. Kristen continues to serve on the brass team at The Mandarins this season in her new role as Assistant Brass Caption Head. She is humbled and honored to join the Caballeros again this season to help build another fabulous brass program with the Caballeros staff and membership.

Luke Chemidlin is an enthusiastic percussion instructor and educator based in Somerville NJ. Luke began his marching career with Immaculata High School where he discovered his love for music and performance.
Luke has had the privilege of marching with several respected groups, including the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps (2014), 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (2016), Rutgers University Drumline (2015-2016), Cadets2 Drum and Bugle Corps (2017), and United Percussion in 2017.
In recent years, Luke has returned to his alma mater, Immaculata High School, where he plays a pivotal role as the Percussion Caption Head. He has been instrumental in shaping and enhancing Immaculata's marching band program, as well as their indoor drum line program (2015-Present). Additionally, Luke has shared his expertise as the Battery Caption Head at United Percussion 2.
Throughout the course of his marching career, Luke has had the privilege of learning from incredible instructors, including Dan Bonham, Neil Cote, Ken Riehman, Paul Nalesnik, John Forte, Jeff Bickford, Omi Batan, Carlos Vazquez, Brendan Murphy, Andrew Kain, Joe Ciancimino, Alex Beltran, and many more. Harry has been involved with the Caballeros since 2020, and is happy to return home as a staff member. He started his marching career on quads at Madison HS, NJ. From there he continued his marching experience with the Hawthorne Caballeros (2020-2024), United Percussion 2 (2020, 2024) and United Percussion (2025).
He has taught at his alma mater Madison HS, and is currently a battery technician at Bridgewater-Raritan HS for their indoor percussion and marching band programs. He’s incredibly excited to be on the staff side for 2025!
Outside of the marching arts, Harry is in his final year at Stevens Institute of Technology pursuing his B.E. in Computer Engineering and will continue his education to pursue an M.S. in Physics.

Matt is a percussion educator from Barnegat, New Jersey. He was first exposed to the marching arts during his time at Barnegat High School, and then went on to march drum corps with the Raiders from 2016-2018, and the Hawthorne Caballeros from 2019-2021. His indoor experience includes East Coast Percussion from 2017-2018, United Percussion 2 in 2019, and United Percussion for the 2021-2022 seasons. Furthermore, Matt is currently the percussion caption head and battery arranger at Madison High School and a quad tech at UP2, and was previously a quad tech at the 7th Regiment. Matt is excited to return to the Caballeros as part of the instructional staff, and looks forward to continuing the tradition of excellence that he learned much from.

Ryan’s marching career started in 2012 with The Cadets2 Drum and Bugle Corps for their inaugural season and continued with them through the end of the 2013 and 2014 competitive seasons. During that time, Ryan performed with Cadets Winter Percussion for the 2014 and 2015 WGI seasons and then spent three years touring & performing with the 10-Time DCI Champions, The Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps (2015, 2016, 2017). Upon aging out, Ryan received the ‘Cadet of the Year’ award as a member of the 2017 Cadets Drumline. Ryan also spent three years in the Rutgers University Drumline and served as bass drum section leader for his last two years.
Ryan has taught multiple high school percussion programs in New Jersey. During the winter season, Ryan is one of the battery instructors for United Percussion World. During the summer, Ryan is a battery instructor for The Cadets, as well as The Hawthorne Caballeros. Ryan is excited to start his 7th year with the Caballeros in 2024!

Nick’s involvement in the broader marching percussion world started in 2019 as a member of the West Chester University Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band Bass Line (2019-2022). During that time, Nick ventured into the independent scene, marching with Imperial Dynasty during the 2020 WGI season. After a brief hiatus from independent percussion, he furthered his passion for marching bass drum as a member of United Percussion, where he played bass 1 in both the 2023 and 2024 season. In addition to marching, Nick has taught at various high schools in the Southeastern PA area and is currently the battery caption head at Downingtown West High School and bass tech at United Percussion 2.

Tom Heider is a percussion instructor from Freehold, New Jersey. He has been a marching percussionist since high school where he found a passion for the activity. Afterwards he went on to march with The Bushwackers in 2014-2015, the Rutgers University Marching Band in 2015-2016, The Hawthorne Caballeros in 2016, United Percussion in 2017-2018, Cadets2 in 2017, and finally aged out with The Cadets in 2018. As an educator, Tom spent two years running the Madison High School percussion program alongside fellow Caballeros staff member Ryan Brodhead. He also helped with the 2019 preseason at The Raiders as a snare tech. Tom could not be more excited about returning to The Caballeros this summer!

Brian Horn is a marching percussion educator from Somerset, NJ. His marching percussion career started 15 years ago at Immaculata High School in Somerville, NJ. Brian’s first experience with an independent group was playing snare drum as a member of the Bushwackers (2010). Following the DCA experience, Brian then marched 2 seasons, including his age-out season, at United Percussion (snare drum 2011, 2012).
Brian has been the caption head at Westfield High School (US Bands), since 2012. Brian also has WGI, DCA, and DCI teaching experience, with East Coast Percussion (2018), with United Percussion A (2019), The Hawthorne Caballeros (2018,2019) and most recently with the Jersey Surf (2019)

Carlos is a graduate of the Mason Gross School of the Arts, where he double-majored in Music Education and Psychology and is currently working on his master’s degree in percussion performance at Rutgers. Carlos has been a percussion educator in New Jersey for over 10 years teaching several high schools, private lessons, clinics, and the Rutgers University Drum Line. He is an active freelance musician in the New York and New Jersey area, specializing in classical and Latin percussion. He has played on the national tour of Hair the musical and currently plays snare drum for the NY Giants Drum Line as an employee of Blue Devils Entertainment. He has had the honor to play alongside musicians such as Eddie Palmieri and Delfeayo Marsalis and has recorded with the Wu-Tang Clan. This will be Carlos’ 7th season with the Caballeros Drum and Bugle corps.

Chris Parr is a New Jersey-based musician, educator, and composer currently serving as a music arranger and battery coordinator at West Milford High School, as well as a jazz band clinician for multiple schools, including Wayne Valley High School, Pequannock Township High School, and West Milford High School. In addition to these roles Chris teaches general music, sharing his passion for music with students of all ages and abilities. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education in Jazz Studies at William Paterson University. Having worked with various music programs in New Jersey, Chris has also contributed to independent organizations such as the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps, where he served as center snare and section leader earning awards such as the Drum Corps Associates World Championship in 2021 and the William McGrath Sr. Memorial Trophy for High Percussion in 2022. Chris would like to thank all of his teachers and mentors for their invaluable guidance and inspiration throughout his musical journey.

Jacob is a marching arts educator from New Jersey. Jay is thrilled to be returning to the Hawthorne Caballeros for the 2024 season. Jay has been on the Caballeros front ensemble staff since the 2021 season. As a performer, Jay was a member of the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps (2013), United Percussion (2014-2018), and Carolina Crown (2016-2019). Throughout his time in the activity, Jay has had the pleasure of learning from many influential educators including Steve Ballard, Ian Hale, Jim Ancona, Thom Hannum, Iain Moyer, Annie Chernow, Alex Kluttz, Marcus Neudigate, and Dave Osworth.
Jay has worked with various high school programs in the greater New Jersey area and is currently the Front Ensemble Manager at United Percussion World and a Front Ensemble Technician at the Boston Crusaders, the University of Delaware, and the Hawthorne Caballeros. Jay is also a proud member of the Vic Firth Education Team.

Lornaa Morales is a Cabs Front Ensemble Alum, a North Jersey based music educator, and Board Certified Music Therapist. In her marching career, she performed with the Hawthorne Caballeros from 2017 through 2019, and since then, went on to teach with the organization. Lornaa also performed with United Percussion for their 2019, 2020, and 2022 seasons, and was the UP2 Front Ensemble Captionhead for their 2023 season. She is passionate about making positive and meaningful connections with her students through music and education, and has taught in various school districts such as the Elizabeth, Madison, Ramsey, Nutley, and Roxbury High Schools.
Lornaa earned her Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from Montclair State University, and studied both Classical Percussion, and Jazz. She worked with incredibly talented educators some of which include Barry Centanni, Matt Smallcomb, Steve Nelson, Oscar Perez, and Thomas McCaughley.
Currently, Lornaa is working as a Music Therapist with Suncrest Hospice, teaching private instrumental lessons for all ages, and excited for the 2025 DCI season with the Hawthorne Caballeros !

This will be Valeri’s 27th year with the Hawthorne Caballeros. She was named Caballero percussionist of the year in 2004 and won two DCA championships in 2003 and 2021. Valeri had marched 3 seasons with the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps from West Chester, PA in 88, 89, and 90 and the Concord Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps from CA, in 91.
Valeri grew up outside of the Philly-area, Media, PA. She completed her undergraduate degree in Music Education from West Chester University of West Chester, PA. She completed her master’s in music education at The University of North Texas, Denton, TX. She has had the opportunity to have studied and perform under many successful professional musicians such as Marimba-Leigh Howard Stevens, Dr. Robert Schietroma, Keiko Abe, Michael Van Sice, Michael Burritt, William Moershe, Ney Rosauro & Gordon Stout. Valeri has taught music throughout NJ since 1998; marching bands, indoor drum lines, concert bands, jazz bands, pit orchestras, instrumental lessons, choirs, general music, Jazz House for Kids and the Little Kids Rock program. She is presently a full-time instrumental music teacher and band director at the Elizabeth Public School District in Elizabeth, NJ since 2009, working at Joesph Battin School No. 4.

Color Guard Technician
David is very excited for his second year teaching the Hawthorne Caballeros Color Guard! David began his marching career at Mineola High School in 2015 until he graduated in 2018. After High School, David embarked in DCI and marched for two summers at the Cadets: 2018 and 2019. David took a summer off due to Covid then rekindled his passion for the marching arts at the Blue Devils. He completed another two summers of DCI with the Blue Devils in 2021 and 2022. Apart from DCI, WGI has also been a huge part of David's marching career. David has been a member of AMP Winterguard since 2019. In 2024 David became a captian and is part AMP's leadership team! David has also instructed various Marching Bands and Winterguards in the PA/NJ/NY area since 2019.
David is thrilled to have another amazing and memorable season with the Hawthorne Caballeros!
Joshua Wallowitch
Color Guard Technician
Joshua “Wally” Wallowitch is excited and eager to join the color guard staff for the 2024 season with the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps. Wally started his marching career as a saxophone player in West Deptford High school (2006-2010). He began color guard journey with Commotion winter guard (2010-2013) and his first world class experience with Jersey Surf (2010-2012). He studied music education at West Chester University and participated as a member of the Golden Ram Marching Band (2013-2015) serving as one of the color guard captains in 2015. Wally finished his junior corps career by aging out with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (2013-2014) and began competing in WGI world class with Field of View winter guard (2014-2017). His most recent marching experiences were with AMP winter guard (2018-2020) and is a proud alumnus of the Caballeros color guard (2019-2022). Wally is thrilled to have the opportunity to come back to the Caballeros as an instructor and continue the tradition of excellence that the Cabs Guard is known for.
