2017 Caption Heads Announced!
The Hawthorne Caballeros are proud to announce their 2017 caption heads and assistant staff coordinator!
Bobbey Biddle: Color Guard Caption Head
This is Bobbey’s seventh year with the Hawthorne Caballeros and returns for the 2017 season as the Color Guard Designer and Caption Head.
For ten years Bobbey has served as the Director and Designer of the color guard program at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting, PA. He has taught in many capacities with various other programs over the years including Upper Darby HS, Colonial Middle School, Springfield HS (PA), and Millersville University of Pennsylvania. Bobbey’s color guard performing started at Middletown High School in Delaware and he went on to march at Apex Winterguard, University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hen Marching Band, the Visual Arts Production Company (now Delazure), and finally with the Black Watch World Class color guard.
Since 2010 he has served as a member of the Black Watch staff. Bobbey is also a member of the Mid-Atlantic Indoor Network (M.A.I.N) color guard circuit Executive Board. He is an accomplished theater performer and trained vocalist and was a high school and middle school director of musical theater productions. For fifteen years he was a volunteer with the Miss America Pageant program where he was a pageant director, mentor and judge.
Bobbey Biddle, a Delaware native, is now a Philadelphia resident and works for a major printing and apparel company based in Pennsylvania.
John Adcock: Brass Caption Head
John Adcock is entering his third year with the Caballeros brass staff.
Currently completing his music education degree at Immaculata University, John spent seven years in the US Army Band as a tuba player, arranger, and sound engineer, including deployments to Iraq and Kuwait as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has performed as a tuba and bass trombone player with various groups at Walt Disney World in Orlando and Busch Gardens of Tampa. Johngot his drum corps start with Suncoast Sound and later aged out with the Blue Devils. He has also won a DCA World Championship with the Reading Buccaneers, as a euphonium player.
John is a sought-after music judge, consultant, clinician, and educator having served on the staff of many bands and drum corps over the last thirty years, most recently with Teal Sound, Carolina Gold, Spring-Ford Area High School, Upper Darby High School, and is currently the music arranger and music ensemble director of the marching band and jazz band at Avon Grove High School in West Grove, Pa.
Andrew Hayward: Visual Caption Head
Dr. Andrew Hayward is the founder of the New Jersey based marching arts design company, Fusion Marching Designs. He has been active in the marching arts as a performer, educator, and adjudicator for over 20 years and has won awards at local, state, and regional competitions. Dr. Hayward’s design schedule keeps him busy writing for various indoor and outdoor marching ensembles located across the United States and China. Currently, he works as visual caption head or consultant for several highly competitive bands in the Central Jersey region.
Dr. Hayward received his D.M.A in clarinet performance from Rutgers University under the guidance of Jessica Phillips of the MET Opera. He keeps an active private clarinet studio where he strives to instill the importance of fundamentals and musicality. Dr. Hayward has performed in various groups with locals ranging across the United States and into Europe. A former member of The Cadets , he has given back to the activity he loves by inspiring his students to reach for new levels of excellence.
In his free time, Dr. Hayward enjoys distance running and web/graphic design.
Mark Monaghan: Percussion Caption Head
Mark Monaghan has 4+ years teaching experience at all levels ranging from beginner high school to world-class marching ensembles, including collegiate teaching experience. Mark’s drum corps experience started Crossmen in 2012 and 2013. Later he joined the Santa Clara Vanguard for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, winning the Fred Sanford High Percussion award in ’14. Mark also marched with United Percussion for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Mark’s teaching experience includes United Percussion, Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights, Edison HS, and Bridgewater Raritan HS. Mark Monaghan has a bachelors in psychology, with a minor in music. He is currently pursuing his second bachelors in music education, with a concentration in classical percussion.
Lou Storck: Assistant Staff Coordinator
Lou has been with the Hawthorne Caballeros since 1966. His career with Hawthorne started in the percussion section before joining the color guard, a section that he taught from 1969 through the 1999 season. In 1977, Lou was selected to become an assistant drum major, a position he held until 2007. In addition to his role in supporting Matt Hurley and the education staff, Lou will continues his position in the administration as Operations Manager.
Lou was inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 2004 and the NJ Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 2010.
