Andrew Hayward and Michelle Adcock Announce 2017 Visual Staff!
Andrew Hayward, Visual Caption Head, Michelle Adcock, Visual Ensemble Coordinator, and the Hawthorne Caballeros are proud to introduce the 2017 Visual Staff!
Raymond Gatchalian
A native of central New Jersey, Raymond Gatchalian is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. Raymond’s marching career started in high school, marching tuba during the outdoor season and bass drum during the indoor season. He has also performed with the Rutgers University Marching Band on tuba, as drum major, and currently as the field major. Raymond’s drum corps experience began with The Bushwackers, marching tuba in 2011 and 2014. He then went on to perform with Carolina Crown in 2015 and 2016.
Raymond’s past teaching experience includes Immaculata High School, Franklin High School, and currently, Rutgers University where he acts as a field technician.
Leslie Zhu
Leslie Zhu is very excited to be joining the 2017 Caballeros visual team. Leslie marched mellophone with World Class groups, the Jersey Surf and the Colts Drum Corps. Leslie holds a bachelors degree in Political Science from Rutgers University. While at Rutgers, she participated in various musical ensembles. In 2011, Leslie began teaching with the Bridgewater-Raritan High School marching band and has continued to serve on their visual staff since. In 2016, she also acted as a visual consultant to the BRHS winter guard.
Leslie is looking forward to her inaugural year on the Caballeros visual team.
Kevin Kirby, Jr.
This will be Kevin’s second year as a visual tech for the Caballeros. In 2016, he served primarily as the baritone visual technician. Prior to this, he was a part of the Caballeros tuba line from 2012-2015. Kirby has been a visual technician in Delaware for the past 13 years — Mckean High School (2003-2006; 2012-2013) and Middletown High School (2005-present).
Dana Mandell
Dana Mandell is a graduate student at Arizona State University, pursuing a Master of Music degree in Music Education. Before attending ASU, she spent four years teaching elementary music in public schools in New Jersey. Dana earned a Bachelors of Music degree, in Music Education, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she marched in the UMass Minuteman Marching Band. Dana is also an accomplished concert French hornist and is currently studying as a member of the horn studio at ASU. She has performed and taught all over the United States and in Europe and has also performed with a variety of orchestral, wind, and chamber ensembles.
Dana’s experience in the marching arts is extensive. She has taught many different marching bands over the past 9 years, most notably the University of New Haven Chargers (CT), South Brunswick High School (NJ), and Woodbridge High School (NJ). She has also been a visual staff member for several drum and bugle corps in recent years, including the Cadets2 (DCA), Bushwackers (DCA), and Raiders (DCI). As a marching member, Dana played mellophone with Carolina Crown (2007) and The Cadets (2008-2009). Dana currently works as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the 400+ member ASU Sun Devil Marching Band.
Michele Mulherin
Michele Mulherin is returning to the Caballeros for her third year on visual staff. Michele marched in the Caballeros mellophone line from 2010-2014 after starting her drum corps career as a mellophone player with the Syracuse Brigadiers in 2008 and 2009. From 2007- 2011, Michele was a visual instructor with several marching bands in New York State, winning a NYSFB Conference National Class Championship in 2010 with the Victor Blue Devil Marching Band. She is currently is the Visual Caption Head for the Ramsey Big Blue Marching Band, winning the Region 10 TOB Open Class Chapter Championship this year. In the past, she has worked with the Hackettstown Tiger Marching Band and Madison Marching Dodgers. Michele has a Bachelors degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam in Psychology and a Master’s degree in School Counseling and Educational Leadership, from the University of Rochester.
She currently works as a Patient Care Coordinator for Beltone Hearing Aid Centers in North Jersey.
Kevin Horne
Kevin Horne is entering his third year on the Caballeros visual staff. He is currently the band director at J.T. Lambert Intermediate School in East Stroudsburg, PA and the Assistant Band Director at East Stroudsburg South High School, where his ensembles consistently receive superior and excellent ratings. Kevin received his B.M. from West Chester University, where he performed as a trumpet soloist in the wind and jazz ensembles. He is currently completing his M.M. in wind band conducting at Messiah College. Kevin marched lead trumpet with Hawthorne in 2009, 2010, and 2013, along with the Madison Scouts in 2012. He has previously taught on visual and brass staffs with Raiders Drum & Bugle Corps, Morris Knolls High School, and Montville High School.
Kevin lives in Phillipsburg, NJ with his Fiance Alyssa & dog Zoey.
