Meet the 2017 Executive Management Team!
The Hawthorne Caballeros are lead by a team of well-respected drum corps individuals. At the 2017 Open House, they will be able to provide answers to all questions, including:
- What are the financial obligations for the 2017 season? (It’s one of the lowest of the top DCA corps!)
- Will there be a food plan available for membership? (Yes there is!)
- Are there free housing opportunities available throughout the year? (Yes there is!)
Without further ado, please meet our Executive Management team!
Alan Katz – Business Manager
Alan is celebrating 50 years in drum corps this year. Over the years, Alan has instructed and designed drill for a number of corps, bands, and color guards during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
He started his drum corps career in 1967 with the Wayne Monarchs, which later merged with the Greenwood Lake Lakers, forming The Kings Regiment. Between 1967 and 1977, he marched as a lead/solo baritone, along with, serving as Color Guard Captain for the Monarch/Kings Knights All-Male Winter Color Guard. After his age out year in 1977, he was marching instructor for the Lakers and drill designer for the Monarch/Kings Knights, as well as, serving as assistant director for the latter organization.
In 1979, Alan Joined the Caballeros, starting his 38 year run with the organization. Alan marched until 1993, as lead baritone, while also being the featured baritone soloist in 1989 and 1990. In 1989, he won the Hawthorne Caballeros Brass Player of the Year award. During his marching years the corps, Alan won American Legion Championship in 1980 and back to back DCA World Championships in 1984 and 1985. In 1994, Alan Joined the visual staff helping the corps win high visual between 1994 and 1996, with a DCA World Championship in 1995.
Over the years, Alan served as fundraising chairman and chairman for both the Drum Corps Grand Prix and Cabs at the Beach contests. Alan has served on the Board of Directors since it’s inception and was assistant business manager between 1999 and 2002, assisting the legendary Bob Murray. In 2002, after Bob’s passing, James J. Costello, appointed Alan as business manager; the third person to ever fill that role. In 2003, in his first year as business manager, the corps won it’s 9th DCA world Championship. In 2014, Alan became the DCA representative for the Caballeros. In 2015, Alan was inducted into the New Jersey Drum Corps Hall of Fame.
Beside his active drum corps involvement, Alan is the President of Williams, Alexander & Associates, a debt management company located Wayne, NJ. His past civic credentials include, two terms as president of the Wayne Rotary Club, chairman of the board for the Tri-County Chamber of Commerce, vice chairman for the Foundation of the Handicap, president of the American Collectors Association of New Jersey, secretary and board director for the First Jersey Credit Union, and vice president of the West Milford High School Football Booster Club.
Alan is married to his wife of 37 years, Rickie, who was one of the first women to march in the Caballeros all-women color guard in 1982. They have one son, Bill, a new daughter-in-law, Susan, and a grand puppy named, Romeo.
Lou Storck: Operations Manager
Lou has been with the Hawthorne Caballeros since 1966. His career with Hawthorne started in the percussion section before joining the color guard, a section that he taught from 1969 through the 1999 season. In 1977, Lou was selected to become an assistant drum major, a position he held until 2007. In addition to his role as Operations Manager, Lou assists Matt Hurley and the education staff as Assistant Staff Coordinator.
Lou was inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 2004 and the NJ Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 2010.
Michael Ryan – Membership Manager
Michael Ryan joined the Caballeros in 1976 and has been with the corps ever since. Over the years, Mike was marched baritone, contra bass, and tuba. Later, in his marching career, he was elevated to assistant drum major. In his most recent years with the Caballeros, Mike has held the title of Membership Manager. In 2014, Mike was inducted into the NJ Drum Corps Hall of Fame.
The Ryan family is a staple within the Caballeros organization. Prior to Mike and his brother, John, joining the Caballeros in the 1970s, their father was a marching member. Additionally, his wife, Terry, was one of the first female members of the Hawthorne Caballeros’ color guard. Mike and Terry’s daughters, Patricia and Bridget, represented the third generation of Ryan’s to be involved with the Caballeros. Mike’s son-in-law, Chris Dadaian, marched baritone in the late-90s and 00s, later becoming a brass technician.
Outside of drum corps, Mike works with Parsippany Hills High School marching band.
Erin Carbone – Treasurer
Erin joined the Caballeros in 2008 and is now entering her 10th season with the corps. Erin marched Honor Guard from 2012-2014 and has been in the role of Treasurer since 2012. Beyond her role as Treasurer, Erin maintains the corps uniforms and as the corps “Mom.”
Erin is a graduate from Centenary College, Hackettstown, New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with Marketing. Erin has over 30 years experience in fields of accounting and business.
Erin is looking forward to yet another amazing season!
